  2. Hello Saleem,
I heard about your son through Yassar. I have been praying for your son and hope that he recovers soon, inshallah.
Saleem,I had a quick question. Is Saira breastfeeding the baby? If she is not then ignore what I have to say. My research interest in pediatrics has been breastfeeding and it's immunological effects. There is definitely passive transfer of IgA,IgG
and IgM and T cells. How much of it is absorbed and it's effects are evidenced by low incidence of infectious illnesses in breastfed babies.
If your son's condition is due to the assumption that Saira's antibodies that were passively transferred during pregnancy are still destroying his platelets, then I am not sure if the same antibodies are not being transferred during breastfeeding as well.
Just a thought, if she is not breastfeeding then this hypothesis is out the window.
Let me know. Praying for all of you.

  3. Ayesha,

Thanks for the suggestion. We had thought of this in the very beginning and asked our doctors if they could test the breast milk theory against Ibrahim's platelets in the lab. They pulled some data that showed it was safe to breast feed even if the milk had antiplatelet antibodies in it. But now since no one knows what is going on, we have decided to give it a try anyway, and Ibrahim has been having only formula since yesterday. Let's see what happens. Thanks for the suggestion

    Saleem
